Creature Publishing

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

Creature publishes book-length feminist horror. Our definition of feminist horror is broad and inclusive, and we welcome writing that pushes boundaries. Please see our website for more about the press and to see some of the books we've published.

Our next open period is June 1-20, 2025.

We are looking for novels and novellas between 20,000 and 90,000 words. We are open to nonfiction projects if the work is a strong fit with Creature’s mission. We are not looking for short story collections or anthologies at this time. Please include a cover letter along with your manuscript.

We’d love to see manuscripts featuring:

  • Black authors and Black stories
  • Indigenous stories
  • Appalachian narratives
  • Sex work stories by sex workers
  • Dark academia—take us back to school and make it twisted
  • Really informed mental illness stories
  • War/political conflict (India/Pakistan, Gaza, Ukraine)
  • Climate/natural disaster/ecology
  • Labor and class: Working class/blue collar/trailer park fiction; a white-collar cult; labor organizers at a factory; retail/fast food; illegal/gray market work, such as smuggling/trafficking, stealing, and drug dealers
  • Stories from underrepresented parts of the world
  • As always, unlikeable female/queer/trans characters

If you think your work is a strong fit, please submit.
